He attended dental school at the top-rated University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a DDS degree in 1988, then completed his general practice residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he was selected from amongst all his fellow residents to serve as Chief Resident for his second year. Dr. Ackerman has lectured extensively on many topics in dentistry, including dental care considerations of the aging patient, cosmetic dentistry, and the utilization of dental implants for patients with both simple and complex dental needs. He is one of the few dentists in the area who has comprehensively incorporated the use of dental lasers into his practice for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Ackerman has completed extensive training in dental laser technology, and can provide laser treatments for a wide spectrum of dental needs, including “No Shot, No Drill” fillings, less invasive gum surgeries that result in decreased postoperative discomfort and faster healing time, treatment of facial pain and TMJ disorders, and teeth bleaching.

Dr. Ackerman prides himself on providing individualized, personal dental care to all of his patients. While Dr. Ackerman is a prosthodontist, he is happy to deliver general dental care to all patients, including routine dental care such as cleanings and fillings. In fact, many patients who initially sought treatment from Dr. Ackerman because of their complex dental needs now consider him their family dentist for their parents, spouses, and teenage to adult children.
