What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants give you the power to replace missing or heavily damaged teeth. With a dental implant, you can fill in a gap in your smile and restore your ability to smile normally, as well as bite and chew. You’ll be able to feel more confident and comfortable — plus dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care!

The Implant Process

To ensure that the full process runs smoothly, a patient must follow a certain protocol on their journey to receive dental implants. As part of our process in Norwalk, CT, we consider how an implant might help the patient, as well as what pre-treatment requirements might be required in order to ensure a successful outcome. This process is as follows:

Depending on the health of your jawbone, you may need a bone graft before we can begin the implant process. This is to help build up your jaw enough that we can successfully place the implants.

Once your jaw is ready to go, your dentist will gently insert the slender titanium screws or posts into the bone. These mimic the roots of your natural teeth, and are what we’re talking about when we say “dental implants”.

You’ll need several months for your jaw to fully integrate with the newly placed implants. Over time, they’ll essentially become part of the bone, making them secure enough to hold your replacement teeth. Don’t worry — you won’t feel discomfort during the healing process.

Once your implants are fully integrated with your jaw, your dentist will place titanium abutments on top. These provide an additional foundation for the crowns that will come next.

Finally, your dentist will top your implants with sturdy porcelain crowns. These look just like your real teeth, and will allow you to smile, bite, and chew again!

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the most effective, attractive option for replacing missing teeth. Implants have a great deal of flexibility — you can get a single implant to replace one tooth, or enough to support a full arch of missing teeth. Implants can also be combined with dentures to provide a more affordable option that improves upon the performance of stand-alone dentures.

Testimonials

What People Are Saying

They were as nice, professional, patient, and clean as the five star reviews suggested. They were so accommodating even though we had some issues finding my insurance provider. The doctor and his assistant were detailed and took their time with me, making sure I was comfortable and telling me what they were doing along the way. Overall, I’d recommend them.

Norwalk Dental Associates has the best hygienist I've ever seen in my life. She is kind and gentle and does a wonderful cleaning. The doctor is the best - always trying to do a simple fix before undertaking something more involved. His assistant is also absolutely terrific.
